about

This was the second original song I performed in public on accordion. It was inspired by an e-mail discussion Marg Frey started concerning the utter impracticality of certain love song lyrics, the actual distance one would be willing to walk for one's beloved, and what exactly that is supposed to prove if anything.

lyrics

Baby I would walk a thousand miles for you
Baby I would walk a thousand miles for you
Baby I would walk a thousand miles for you
Baby I would walk a thousand miles for your love

But she called my bluff, she called my bluff,
She did the math and it didn’t add up
She called my bluff, she called my bluff,
She called my bluff, she called my bluff yeah

When I told you I would walk a thousand miles
I didn’t realize what I was getting into
I would have to walk a hundred miles an hour
Just to see you tonight

If you were in a westward timezone
I’d gain an hour back as I proceed
And maybe near the arctic circle
Where timezones are closer between

Baby I would walk a hundred miles for you
Baby I would walk a hundred miles for you
Baby I would walk a hundred miles for you
Baby I would walk a hundred miles for your love

But she called my bluff, she called my bluff,
She did the math and it didn’t add up
“At four miles an hour, it would take you twenty-five
And oh, yeah, you forgot the International Date Line!”

When I told you I would walk a hundred miles
I didn’t realize what I was getting into
I’d still have to run faster than a Marathon
To see you tonight

And frankly I’m not big on walking
In fact, I’m kind of out of shape and
More than half a mile, I’m driving
And frankly your love ain’t that great but

Baby I would walk a half a mile for you
Baby I would walk a half a mile for you
Baby I would walk a half a mile for you
Baby I would walk a half a mile for your love
